Play Time

I had the most interesting conversation with a colleague. It lasted a minute at max. But it really hit something home which I’ve been thinking on for a while.

I was telling Narmi about my weekend – how I was talking to my friends and their cat. I told her that I was a cat because all I do is eat, nap and stare out judging passerby people in the park. She asked “What about play?”. I was like “???” to which she replied, “Cats need a lot of play too”. I was like ahh, that’s what I’m missing in life. Pure unadulterated play. I don’t really know how to play and usually even when I’m doing something non-work, it’s still very structured. So, from now on, with the generous help of my friends, I’m going to do something stupid.

  1. You can go to a pet shop and be amazed that they have snakes. And see people buying snakes. Ask people what made them buy this pet. Tell them you are into sales and want to know their perspective.
  2. Go to a fast food store, ask them if they have curry. If they make a face, tell them you just came from India and don’t know about this place
  3. Take a laundry basket put some makeup so as to look sad. And sit outside and observe how many people looked at you with judgmental eyes.
  4. Walk up to a stranger, give them a sentence to read. Now ask them how many different emotions they can put to the same sentence and tell them out.
  5. Go to a crowded place to dance and sing. Maybe they’ll spare you some change, if you spare them the agony!
