Meaning | Relevance | Attention | Memory
The whole story started with an idea of “10% infra tax”. The idea is simple, dedicate 10% of the time to document the ideas they’ve done. That leads to the question what to document, and then it got mixed up with another question on how to take notes. Then, a friend recommended Zettelkasten for managing the notes. And that led to the question of “with the internet, is it even necessary to take notes?”.That trailed into what it means to learn, because at the end of the day notes are either transfer knowledge or store it for another day or with Zettelkasten, they’re there to think. And another interesting thing I use it for is to think, just have your thoughts out to help you discuss with yourself without forgetting the previous part of the conversation.
At the end of the day, no matter what you do, you’re communicating. That was one idea Zettelkasten was promoting, to let the infobox communicate with you. I don’t know if your notes will ever be better than the internet (the idea is pretty old after all), however, it is important to know who the different parties in the communication are. That being said, we shall look at this “flow” (for the lack of a better term) from three perspectives — current you (learning), future you (retrieving), and others (teaching).

P.S. There are so many categories and techniques about the above topics. I choose to see it from a perspective of why and what than how. Because, in the end, it all boils down to what you’re excited about and what you’re trying to achieve. Having an end goal or a passion is more important than any process or technique in the world.
