Tools for a Good Life
GENERAL
- Take time to figure out what your style is. Having one thing which you like is better than ten that you don’t.
- Ask for others’ suggestions and thoughts. That’s how you get over your biases. Others can be dead too 🙂
- Self Care is ESSENTIAL. Some activities are non-negotiable. For me in no particular order:
- Feeling SHIT? Here’s what you did…
- Exercise/Dancing/Moving
- Art/Singing
- Writing/Rambling
- Quiet Time/Thinking/Reading
- You need to like doing the thing, not just the end result.
- Doing > Thinking or Learning. Just Do It.
- Do it right, do it once.
- Learn moderation – learn to start and to stop.
EMOTIONS
- DGAF about others.
- Bravery without fear is foolishness. Active Risk Management is important.
- Be focused. Don’t be distracted, don’t daydream. Focus on the thing in front of you. There’s nothing like past or future that you can change. So, the present is the only useful reference.
- There are things you can control, there are things you can’t. Change the things you can, accept the things you can’t.
- Do something new, do something hard.
- Don’t be greedy, don’t be stressed – prepare but don’t be frantic, pay attention to the details relaxedly.
PRODUCTIVITY
- Pouletdoro, Fuzzy Zero, Chitties & Stikkies
- Mise en place
- Finish tasks immediately if you can. Don’t keep them for later. I do better if there’s real consequences.
- Learn to time events to see how much time they take.
- Quantity over quality. Because the first 80% takes 20% effort and time.
- Schedules aren’t practical but routines are important. Everything doesn’t have to be done on the same day, same time. Just make sure you have a daily rhythm and groove so you don’t have to wake up thinking “What do I do now?”.
- Don’t try to optimize everything, all at once. Do as much as you can. It’s a feeling.
- Make things low effort.
- Sometimes, you need to relax. Sometimes, you need to energize yourself. Learn to read your body.
COOKING
- Frozen veggies and fruit. Better have a meal or two frozen too.
- Learn few ingredients / one-pot recipes.
- Eating Easy
CLEANING
- Have a cute dish rack: You will not remove the dishes from there, trust me…
- Microfiber cloth is the way to go.
