The Space Between You and Me

Watch me lie on the golden grass,
counting stars in the sun lit sky.
Pouring into the crystal glass,
start our days when the light goes high,
high with tea, three trays each.
Serve it to me with autumn leaves,
glimpses and mischief stares…
Rouge on cheeks, painting pastel garments,
summer curtains, sun kissed apartment
flipping pages, ear marked parchment —
infuse the mystery into the misty air.

Talk to me in tongues, languages lost in time,
sounds without a meaning, heartbeats with a message —
every rhythm owns a battle cry,
every beat delivers, every step marches.
Every breath held too short,
every wound that bleeds too long
sings a tiny song.
Walls have ears for those who speak,
pressing keys together, footsteps breathe.
Brushing tarnished ivory as I lean in,
spinning along in the saga you weave.

Let's go on a drive, to a fun carnival —
Hold my hand as the ride goes up
hold my heart as my world falls down.
Let's swing by park, skipping rocks in the pond…
Twirl and run around in circles,
getting lost in the festive fever.
Lug around my baggage as I run loose,
dancing with strangers on the street,
following directions to the T.

Let’s stare into the sunset —
pop goes the light.
Let's wait a little longer,
before we head home for the night.

Let's find life —
in the floating bubbles,
in the running water,
in the iridescent labor of the splitting rays
as aroma crowds the evening air.
Packed with comfort meals as a warm hug —
let the evening show be the pots and pans,
whistling melodies they know
as the premiere began.

Melodies move into the moonlight —
let me know how I sway.
Singing along with the chorus,
the cicadas sing their sonatas,
Aries to Aquarius and Andromeda —
What do their twinkles say?

Wrapped in a blanket, snuggled up in bed,
I tell stories for the night,
elaborate gestures and candle scents.
Rolling on the plains, hunting imaginary whales — Exquisite elixir.
Dancing around the bonfire, flames reaching higher — Oklahoma mixer.

As my chest glowed at midnight,
I had a dream —
Clouds with a ravenous appetite
washed down the earth,
cleaned off the dirt —
gray skies cried for me.
The drizzle of the rain,
raindrops touched my skin,
caressed it gently.

We climbed the highest peak,
pushed closer to the edge,
washed our feet in the freshest air,
looked at the grandiose condensed from the pin head.
Dining in the dark clouds,
we were served by moonlight.
She held our hands on the walk back home
and as she waved us goodbye,
interrupted by intruders,
uninvited guests,
an unintended off script…

Wake me up in the morning and keep me up at night —
mind screams violently.
Keep me going when things don't go right —
tears dripping silently.
Let them run, let them rush, Leave yourself behind,
come forward with me —
Fireflies on the tree glowing relentlessly.
Flowing lights in the river run free.

Hopefully when I wake up again,
you’ll come back to me,
you'll stay beside me and
you'll still love me.
Do you see the spark?
Do you feel my heart?
A tiny ecstasy
A minor fantasy
Let's bridge it a little slower,
The space between you and me.
