ORCH.EXTRA\E.MOTION

Another pistachio latte caffeine-filled insomniac nights. It’s 4 AM. I have a breakthrough in how I understand my emotions. It takes ideas I discussed with my friends and events that I’ve noticed.

  1. Shubham — Being comfortable with uncomfortable emotions
  2. Erica — Laughing really helped me feel calmer
  3. Emotions as imperfect responses to situations — singing I love you over dissonant chords
  4. There’s always the bottleneck of overwhelm — start with opening that
  5. Drawing with Erica — I wouldn’t do it if I stayed home; observing more as to what’s actually stopping me from doing it
  6. Same as above with Music Jam — Why can I do more when there’s people around — the pressure to do > pressure to be perfect — JUST DO SOMETHING
  7. There’s a sort of paralysis — a freeze response — doing something is very important to get out of it — learned helplessness
  8. Music and emotions — there’s no meaning behind emotions as much as there’s no meaning behind music — it’s what you attach to it
  9. Pt. 2 — The emotions just like music has a harmony and melody — pressure and tension
  10. Pressure is something in the moment — what are the things that build up pressure and what can release it
  11. Major triads are resonant; but going from maj7add9 (I don’t even know if this is a real chord lol) to a maj6 is still a release in tension. Or maybe from IV to a V to a I — there’s less tense chords and also releasing tension.
  12. For the tension, it’s what’s been built up till now. Pressure and tension aren’t inherently exclusive concepts. The current moment is the part of the eternal past.
  13. Moving to tension — like I said before, there’s less tense chords and there’s chords where moving one note can go from dissonant to resonant — you don’t have to change much in life to be resilient.

Spending time with people — I need to give myself time

Pressure release in the moment — mindfulness;

Pressure/Tension release — exercise (increasing pressure and back to normal → still a reduction in tension) | Laughter

Saying no builds up the pressure – thinking too much – holding too many contradicting thoughts – Not knowing builds up pressure

Roll a dice; Flip a coin; Write on small pieces of paper and select one; all of these work

Visualize saying no and practicing mindfulness; letting go doesn’t have to be forced, the pressure will dissipate — you will automatically sing in key if you pay attention to the backing chords

^ What’s the backing track in life? Breath? Heartbeat? — Meditation experts seem to focus on breath more…

Keshuv → Other people’s emotions are excellent regulators

figuring out the bottleneck and how to get past it

Visualize the bottle neck and let go of the pressure (don’t force it, be with it) — RAIN

Not being perfect on the first try and things not being 100% efficient

Life is inefficient — you’ll only use 10% of the things you’ve drafted.

💡There must be other ways of release that I don’t know of/haven’t tested to see the efficacy
